Seward Alaska

Seward lays its claim as the gateway to the stunning area that contains the Kenai Fjords National Park.   Mount Marathon is also in the area of Seward.  The town holds a celebration each year on the 4th of July and includes a race to the peak.

The area around Seward also contains a large amount of fishing areas and activities including kayaking.  If you are planning on coming to Alaska on a vacation, Seward is well worth the time and effort.

The city of Seward is located on the Southern coast of Alaska, in the southeast part of Kenai Peninsula at the start of Resurrection Bay.

The city of Seward has a milder climate that most of Alaska and is important since the port can stay open all year around.

The city of Seward is named after the former Secretary of State William Seward, who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867 for a little over 7 million dollars.   The first settlers arrived in the area around 1900 and most came to help build the railroad which later became the Alaska Railroad.  This is the Southern end of the railroad which goes North from here.

The town of Seward finds itself as a beneficiary of all the railroad traffic, since it must go through the town.  The town of Seward is also home to a large fishing port and the economic center for the Kenai Peninsula.  Big game hunting and wildlife tours can be found in this area which is largely timbered with huge mountains.
